The Fibromyalgia and Sleep Disorders Scientific Conference<
Sponsored by
The National Fibromyalgia Research Association (NFRA)
Thursday October 2 - Saturday, October 4, 2008
The Downtown Portland Waterfront Marriott, Portland, Oregon
The National Fibromyalgia Research Association (NFRA) is committed to developing timely and relevant education for healthcare providers treating fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Despite recent media attention, FMS remains underdiagnosed and undertreated, with no standard management strategy in place.
More than 75% of fibromyalgia patients complain of sleep disturbances and fatigue. Current research suggests that nearly 50% of FMS patients suffer with intrusive alpha wave periods. Other research repots on the frequency of obstructive sleep apnea, upper airway resistance syndrome, insomnia, restless legs syndrome (RLS), and periodic limb movement syndrome (PLMS). These comorbidities increase the symptoms of pain and fatigue, negatively impacting quality of life.
Join your colleagues for this ground-breaking conference where the science of sleep is examined in relation to FMS and selected movement disorders. |

- Describe the syndromes, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of fibromyalgia

- Explain the impact of aging on the sleep/wake cycle
- Discuss common neurochemical pathways mediating the experience of pain and insomnia and describe treatment options based upon them
