Genetics

Currently, there is a fibromyalgia National Institutes of Health funded genetics study being completed.  No outcome data has been printed but a fibromyalgia multicase family study by Muhammad Yunus, MD, PhD showed a familial predisposition in fibromyalgia.  The study, partially funded by the National Fibromyalgia Research Association, involved 40 multicase families and confirmed the existence of a possible gene for FM that is linked with the HLA region.  The results should be regarded as preliminary and their independent confirmation by other studies is warranted, which is being done by the current NIH study.
