Cognitive Dysfunction

Cognitive dysfunction is related to "fibro fog," specifically, confusion and memory impairment.  The difference is that "fibro fog" is a specific component of FM while cognitive dysfunction is related to many other disorders.  Often a person who has suffered a head injury, even whiplash, might suffer from possible cognitive impairment,  Most often these people are embarrassed by their mental confusion and will attempt to cover-up their inability to make change, follow directions, or add up their check-book.  Unlike "fibro-fog" there are a battery of standardized psychological tests that can be administered to these patients to uncover their specific cognitive dysfunction. Based on test results, treatments such as bio-feedback or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be beneficial additives to a fibromyalgia patient's treatment program.
